       Rockwall County artist Jonathan Millett should understandably be proud of his contribution to honoring the first responders who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center attacks.
        On September 9, Miller’s sculpture, “Through the Darkest Valleys Will Kindness and Mercy Follow,” was unveiled at Rowlett Fire Station No. 2, where a large crowd celebrated his work and attended a ceremony in Miller’s honor. The ceremony commemorated the 22nd anniversary. attack.
        The sculpture has a pentagonal base and a twin tower with 343 Maltese cross patterns, each bearing the names of firefighters killed on 9/11, and topped with a bronze bust of a firefighter. The sculpture will be illuminated at night.
        Rowlett Mayor Jeff Winget called the turnout “incredible” and thanked the Rowlett Commission on the Arts and Humanities for completing the sculpture. He also thanked the Rowlett High School choir, which performed at the ceremony.
